Pickleball meets pups in fundraising effort

Most of my blogs are about people helping animals, but this one is a little different. It’s about people helping dogs help other people.

Debra Everington, a 25-year volunteer with Canines Companions for Independence, has a passion for pickleball and puppies.

If you’re not in the know about pickleball, Everington explained it as a mash-up of of tennis, badminton and Ping-Pong played with a wiffle ball by a growing number of people. It’s all the rage and Tallahassee has an active pickleball scene.

She often brings dogs she’s working with along to pickleball practice. Recently, she was talking with fellow pickler Osman Uzun about how the nonprofit needed more volunteers and that she would like to drum up some support in the Tallahassee area.
